My mother’s side hail from Pampanga and she has been such a fierce promoter of her hometown. Once in awhile, she helps the local government in making non-Kapangpangans more aware what they can enjoy in Pampanga. And when people hear Pampanga, they always think of food. It is after all where sisig was born. So we put food and tourism together and came up with a culinary and heritage tour.
We went around several famous restaurants, meeting the chefs, and in between we visited historical houses and museums. We started our tour with breakfast at Atching Lilian’s, one of the keepers of traditional Kapangpangan cuisine.
Between breakfast and dessert, we went to several old houses. Some are considered heritage sites.
After several houses we had lunch at Chef Liam’s restaurant. It was an Asian fusion inspired buffet. Aside from the yummy dishes, we were entertained by none other than Chef Liam himself. He was very down-to-earth and friendly! So proud he is my kababayan.
After lunch, more touring around the town.
For dinner, another world renowned chef cooked for us. We ate at 25 Seeds of Chef Sau. His interpretation of local cuisin was not only delicious, but visiually appealing too.
That night, we stayed at Royce Hotel in Clark. The next day, we visited the Clark Museum and Nayong Pilipino.
It was an enriching experience for me not having visited Pampanga that often like I used to. This is also a good way to show Filipinos that Pampanga has so much to offer. For those Manilenyos, Pampanga is just an hour and a half to two hours away from Manila. Pampanga is a great place to go to for a short getaway. Tours can also be customized if you want to add child-appropriate activities or depending on your budget. I invite you to discover more of Philippines!
